Introduction

Hello viewers!

My name is Hannah Garrard and this is my blog for Fall semester of MM-199-A at Washburn University. This blog will be covering art in our local area, mainly Topeka, Kansas City, and Lawrence. It will be focused on art from my perspective: pieces I have made, pieces my friends/classmates have made and their comments on them, places I have visited, classes I have taken, and so on. I have many people in my life who create daily, some making their annual income by doing so, and I want to expand on my knowledge of their creative way of thinking by writing about them and talking about their thoughts during the creating process.

I chose this topic because I believe in the power of art. Though not usually seen as important as topics like math or science, art does something to people that these things do not; it makes you feel something. Art is powerful, raw, and diverse yet universally understood. As a whole, it is also a very wide subject area; from physical products like ceramics and paintings to auditory products like poetry and music. There are also thousands of variations to how you produce art and even more ways to interpret those same pieces; this is an advantage of living in a culturally diverse world. Though I am not the best artist when it comes down to it, I feel the process is where I feel the most important things happen. Trying new things and seeing what the outcome turns out to be is how I learn and grow into a more well-rounded individual.

It's also so cool that you're incorporating music and poetry into your topic, these are also vital aspects of the art world and need to be seen and heard!
